Tenants

Can I use Rentsoft if my landlord/managers is not registered with Rentsoft?
Yes. You can pay your rent via Rentsoft even if your manager or landlord is not registered with Rentsoft. Simply sign up, login and choose “Add my House”. You will register your house by entering house name, the bank account to which you always pay rent, and your manager’s/landlord’s/agent’s mobile number. You can then pay rent via Rentsoft. They will recieve an SMS every time you pay rent. However, it is highly recommended that you inform your landlord/agent prior to using Rentsoft.
Can I use Rentsoft to pay rent for multiple houses?
Yes. Rentsoft allows you to add up to five houses. Once you have added the first house, swipe the top tile(upper section of the app with current house details) to the left and you will see the button to add a new house.
Can I qualify for Rent loan if am listed on CRB?
Yes. Rentsoft awards loan limits based on tenant usage of the app, and Rentsoft loan terms and conditions. One of those conditions is that a tenant must have used the app for at least 12 months. You can access all terms and conditions in the Rentsoft Loan section of the app.
How much rent loan can I qualify for?
Rent loan amount equals the rent you have been paying in the past 12 months. If you have been paying 15,000 KES, your loan limit is 15,000 KES - equivalent to one month of rent.
How do I pay back my Rentsoft loan?
The loan amount is divided into 12 monthly instalments. Each instalment is automatically added to your monthly rent payment until the 12th month. You also have an option to clear the loan at once and qualify for another.
How does Flex Rent/ Lipa Rent Pole Pole work?
Flex Rent or Lipa Rent Pole Pole allows tenants to pay their rent in small amounts as low as 100 KES. For instance, to pay February rent of 5,000 KES - Start depositing as little as 100 KES in a fixed Flex Rent wallet in January. If your rent is due on February 5th and your Flex Rent wallet balance is equal to or more than 5,000, the Rentsoft system will automatically deduct your Flex Rent wallet balance on 5th February and send the rent due to linked landlord bank account. Your Flex Rent wallet balance will not be sent to your landlord before the rent due date or when the Flex Rent wallet balance is less than the rent due. You cannot withdraw funds from the Flex Rent wallet. This product brings flexibility in rent payment especially for those who earn income on daily or weekly basis and find it difficult to save for rent.

How do I get started?
Create a manager account with your details, including bank account info. Log in and add apartments via CSV. The system will generate house IDs for each unit, which you can share with tenants.
How are rent payments settled?
Payments are processed automatically and settled directly into manager/landlord bank account. When tenants pay from the app, the funds are instantly transferred to the bank account linked to the house. Managers can also activate cumulative settlement. Turning this setting on allows rent payments to be settled in landlord wallet. Landlord/manager can initiate withdrawal of up to 1,000,000 KES per request anytime. Withdrawals are processed instantly.
Is Rentsoft free for managers/landlords?
Yes! Rentsoft has no setup fees, no monthly charges, and no transaction fees.
How many apartments or units can I manage with Rentsoft?
Unlimited. Rentsoft is designed to simplify the task of managing multiple units. For this reason, it allows bulk upload of units using excel sheets. The task of adding tenants is eliminated, further simplifying the process. Tenants onboard themselves once they are provided with the house ID. House IDs do not change. So, managers can stick them within the house for use by incoming tenants.
I already have a management system and don't want to migrate
No problem. Rentsoft can work alongside your existing system. Using Rentsoft API, your developer can integrate Rentsoft with your current system so that payments made via Rentsoft app reflect in your custom rent collection system.
How do I use Rentsoft API?
Go to your manager dashboard, under account and settings, navigate to API. You only need to register a callback url. All payments made to your Rentsoft account will be sent to the url in Json format. Payment data sent via API include house number, tenant names, tenant phone number, tenant arrears, amount etc. Developer documentation is available on the manager dashboard.
What are rent coupons, and why should I give tenants rent discounts?
Just like any other business, you need coupons to drive sales, in this case rent payments. Giving tenants expiring coupons will encourage them to pay their rent before the coupon expires, thus reducing your days in accounts receivable. Only Rentsoft enables you to do that.
What are rent surcharges, and why should I surcharge tenants?
You should discourage late rent payments by surcharging tenants who fail to pay their rent by 10th of each month. This is an easy way to increase your cash flow and also recover the amount you gave out as coupons. Once you create a surcharge rule in the manager dashboard, Rentsoft will enforce it on the tenant app by increasing the rent for that month by the surcharge amount. However, Rentsoft regulates the amount of surcharge managers can collect. The value is between Ksh. 30 to 100 per day and shall not exceed 20 * the daily surcharge. There is an option to settle surchages to the agent/manager account instead of landlord bank account.
What is manager commission and how does it work?
Manager commissions are for managers/agents who take a percentage of rent payments from the houses they manage. Upon agreement with the landlord, managers on Rentsoft can earn their commissions every time tenants make payments. A percentage agreed upon by the manager and landlord will be deducted from the rent paid and credited to manager’s digital wallet. Managers can then link a secondary bank account and withdraw their earnings from the dashboard.
